What are some CDBG eligible/ineligible activities?

Eligible activities under the CDBG program include the following:
- Acquisition of real property
- Disposition of real property
- Public facilities and improvements
- Clearance, demolition of property
- Public services
- Interim assistance
- Relocation
- Loss of rental income
- Housing services
- Acquisition, reconstruction, rehabilitation, or installation of distribution lines and facilities of privately-owned utilities
- Housing rehabilitation
- Commercial or industrial rehabilitation
- Removal of architectural barriers
- Code enforcement
- Historic preservation
- Special economic development
- Planning
- Fair Housing
CDBG funds may not be used to support the following:
- Activities outside the city of Charleston;
- General operating or administrative costs;
- Administrative salaries; only half of the salaries of direct service providers will be considered … an organization MUST show that the balance of the salary is covered by other funds;
- Computers for administrative staff;
- Religious activities;
- Political activities.
