Can I demolish a historic building in the City of Charleston?

The Charleston Historic Landmarks Commission (CHLC) meets monthly and, when necessary, considers requests to demolish designated historic structures. Depending on the circumstances, the CHLC may require a 90-day delay.

If the structure represents a substantial threat to public safety, the delay may be waived and an emergency demolition permit issued. This Guide to Demolition Delay explains that process.
